The exploratory project “Maintenance 4.0” addresses the impact of R&D work currently described by the terms “Industrial Internet” or “Industry 4.0”, on maintenance and asset management. The key issue of “Industry 4.0” will be the high degree of virtualisation, i.e. the one-to-one mapping between physical and digital world, leading to the notion of “Cyber-Physical Systems” (CPS). These systems can be monitored and controlled via networked and web-based services.
In the project, we will do two different surveys of the needs of manufacturers with respect to maintenance strategies: we will define metrics for virtualisation and scenarios for maintenance strategies and a roadmap for research into issues of “Maintenance 4.0”. Our results will be openly accessible as a contribution towards Austria’s emerging research and technology roadmap for the Industrial Internet.
